I have been thinking about going back to school for about a year now. The plan was to get my masters...but in what? I didn't know. Since I knew we were going to be in Florida for such a short period of time I knew I had time to think.
My original plan when I was completing my undergrad degree was to go back after a year or two and get a Masters of Business Administration. Oh by the way my degree is in Hospitality and Special Events Management. Basically with two very board degrees I figured I could do anything. Which is basically the truth. Except there's one tiny detail...I don't know what I want to do. HR struck my fancy but there is a lack of jobs in that area, seems kind of pointless to spend more money going back for that to not get a job.
Recently, I have been thinking about getting certified as a teacher. Elementary education (PreK-3) would be my preferred area. But I'm slightly lost as how one goes back to school for this. I think that I can enroll to get my masters in education. I will probably have to take a few undergrad classes that I didn't take before like history and maybe a little more math. Don't start thinking that I am going into this blindly, I will do more research but I just want to know if anyone knows first hand how this works? After we move I will start looking at local colleges and see what they have to offer in detail. This is just a little spark right now. When I get excited about something I tend to dive right in!
In other news, I went by Fleet and Family Services today and picked up our moving packet. I feel like I am the most uninformed military wife out there so I am stepping up my game. I'm going to attend a Smooth Move Workshop next Wednesday. Not that our first move didn't go well but I just want to cover all my bases. Hopefully when I get there other wives will feel the same way I do!

A Little DIY Project
On my days off I have been trying not to go out and spend a lot of money because I'm supposed to be saving for my trips to NYC and Dallas. So that leaves me cleaning the house, taking the dogs to the dog park, reading blogs which is by the way my favorite way to spend the afternoon! But sometimes I start going a little stir-crazy and I look around the house for a project I could do with little to no money being spent.
And that's just what I did.
When E first moved out he inherited furniture that used to be his step-dads from when he first moved out! Okay this stuff is old!! Well at least 25 years old. There are two night stands and a tall dresser. There used to be a low long dresser but E tired to change it before we got married....and let's just say he doesn't have the crafting skills like i do! Needless to say we don't have that piece anymore.
Here's a look at what I have done so far!
The gold handles are what started this project...I hate them!
This was currently just ugly wastes of space!
And now look at it!
I really wanted to paint it white because I've seen so many beautiful transformations out in blogland. But I also didn't want to spend any money. So the paint and handle were left over from our bedroom furniture pieces!

I have no hair!
This is me letting out a little scream because I feel like I don't have any hair left!
And here I am at the salon saying good by to my beautiful long hair!
Really I am so happy it's over with and I do like my hair cut. It was a bit of a shocker when I washed it this morning...very strange. But some little kid is going to be very happy one day...and that makes me feel all warm and fuzzy.
Here is a photo right before I went to the salon...so you have an idea of just how much is gone!

If you believe it prayers, positive thoughts, or miracles now is the time. Megan at It's a Wonderful Life is going through a lot right now pertaining to her pregnancy. I don't know Megan but as I've read her last few posts my heart goes out to her. Reading about what she is going through just makes you want to give her lots of big hugs! I don't want to tell her story for her, so all I'll say is she recently found out that her unborn baby has quite a few heart defects. I'm not a mother but I can't even begin to imagine the emotions she is feeling right now. So if you believe in prayers, miracles or even happy dances...send them her way and then multiple that by 10. Who wouldn't want the extra encouragement and positive thoughts. But please be kind if you for any reason don't have anything nice to say...then don't say anything at all.

Face Painting
At work tonight our printer was going crazy. It wasn't printing properly because it was running out of ink. So I had to take the cartridge out and shake it a few times and then it would be fine in the process I got a little ink on my hands. No big deal. Finally I gave in and put a new cartridge in. Awesome printing is back to normal....little more ink on my hands...no big deal. Then the $*#* machine starts jamming. I just wanted to throw it! Calmly I say a little prayer to the printer gods to just let me get through this night. After all of that two boys come up to me and say that I have black in on my face!! ALL OVER. you've got to be kidding me! So I start rubbing my face with my hands that are still ink stained and make it worse. Eventually they tell me that it's better....my only thought is how long did I go around helping people and smiling like an idiot with black ink all over my face...

Change is Good
I want to thank everyone who participated in The Husband Project these past couple of days! I think it is so much fun and beneficial even if you just do a few of the projects. For more information and to purchase the books to go this link The Husband Project
Now back to normal everyday posts.
I have a few things on my mind. I'm going through some changes. I am trying to work on being more positive and outgoing. I still see myself as this shy quiet kid in the back of the room but it's time to take charge. So while I work on that it's time for a new hair style! I'm thinking something like this the short angled bob. I did not come up with that when I googled short hair cuts that came up.
I have been growing out my hair for a while now and I have at least 10 inches to donate for Locks For Love. So now it's just up to me to get the courage to go and chop it all off. And after that is done I'm going to dye it dark brown. I always feel better when my hair is dark brown. and while I know the locks for love people accept colored hair I feel like natural healthy hair is the best to donate.
On another note, in college a good friend of mine and I had a falling out it was ugly. The worst part was I didn't know how to handle it. I've never really argued with a friend before and definitely not like this one. So basically I just ignored everything. I acted like nothing was bothering me and tried to move on. We were both hurt and I took the silent way out as she decided to be very vocal. I wish everything had turned out differently but it's the past now. So with me being all into changing and becoming a better person I decided to write to her and tell her that I am sorry for the way everything turned out. I'm not sure I should have. I mean really I don't expect us to be friends again. But I couldn't be silent any longer. I don't know that she will write me back. I'm not sure I really want her too. But it has been almost 2 years now since we had our falling out. Maybe it was selfish that I needed some kind of closure to the relationship...but the message was sent and so that's just one more thing I can't take back.

Heart vs. Stomach
A Treat Just for Him
“You can tell a lot about a fellow’s character by his way of eating jellybeans.”
Ronald Reagan
Your Project:
Get a food treat for your husband that he’s not required to share with you or any other family member.
Getting Creative
Stumped for ideas? Here are some thoughts:
- Get his favorite pint of Ben & Jerry’s and hide it behind the frozen chicken. Even if you buy it on Tuesday, you’ll have it ready and waiting for his special night later in the week.
- Is there a certain cut of meat that your husband loves? How about having the butcher cut something just for him? Most supermarkets will even do the marinade for you – one less thing to think about.
- Is there a certain candy that your husband loves from his childhood? Check out www.candywarehouse.com. They have all the nostalgic candy you could want (Black Jack Gum, anyone?) while also carrying any modern favorite you could be looking for.
- My husband’s family loves something called “noodles and mashed potatoes” (we lovingly refer to it as “The Starch Fest”). I learned how to make this special dish just for him.
- My guy loves the smell of baking almost as much as he enjoys eating the treat. Have some brownies in the oven when he gets home from work or working out. (I know, it negates the workout, but isn’t chocolate always worth it?)
- Our friend Scott mentioned that he loves cranberry sauce, but eats it only at Thanksgiving. His wife intentionally made the holiday treat for him this past July.
- Are you a wife who is an expert at low-cal salads and other forms of chick-food? Check out The Ultimate Guide to Man Food at www.kathilipp.com for ideas

My Project 4
E loves Mr. Goodbar. Loves them more than any other candy in the world. However, I had a hard time buying them because you can't just buy a single one at the store. The only seem to sell them in mini's in a bag with other types of candies. Whle all the bags of valentine's day candy is out I went and stocked up on them. I plan to keep some hidden and just bring them out ever so often starting today.

You da’ Man
Spreading Great Gossip About Your Guy
Your Project:
Say something nice about your husband to someone else.
Make sure you tell him what you said, and to whom.
Getting Creative
Who are the important people in your husband’s life? Your kids, his parents, his friends? Be intentional about who you chat with when you brag on him – it’s almost as important as actually doing it.
Having a hard time coming up with something? I still brag on my guy for things he did years ago. He loves when I tell the story of how brilliantly he proposed (there were waterfalls and stuffed portabella mushrooms involved…).
Here are some other areas to think about when crafting your brag:
- His parenting skills
- His patience level
- The way he treats your mom
- His culinary ability
- His job
- His loyalty to you
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
My Project 3
Because I don't regularly call his parents that would just be strange if I picked up the phone and said "Oh your son is just the sweetest guy because he is taking me to see not one but two movies (Dear John and Valentines Day) this weekend that I really want to see!" So I'm going more my style and putting it on Facebook and now apparently Blogger! haha. I'm not exactly sure of the wording but this way his close friends, parents and he will see that I'm telling all the internet how much I love him!
Do Something He Enjoyed Before You Got Married
“Lust is easy. Love is hard. Like is most important.” ~ Carl Reiner
Your Project:
Initiate an activity that your husband used to love. Whether it’s his favorite hobby, sport, or pastime, it’s time for you to get involved – be his buddy today.Getting Creative
- Many a man’s hobby has gone by the wayside due to matrimony. Is it possible that it’s time you learned to golf or fly fish? Don’t try to beat him, just join him.
- Possibly the only thing your husband would enjoy more than playing chess with you is teaching you how to play chess. Ask for a lesson so he can teach you something that he is an expert at (or really loves). Just your willingness to learn will be a huge boost to your guy.
- Pick up a magazine about your guy’s now dormant hobby. Ask him questions about why he loves it so much. Learn a couple of technical terms so that you are better able to discuss it.
- Do a little research. Find out what the definitive website is on your husband’s favorite subject. Maybe there’s an event in town, a lecture to attend, or a game to watch.
My Project 2
When I met E he was on a bowling league with his mom and brother. It was part of their family bonding time. The boys both love bowling. I do not. I will go bowling but it is not something we do often. E has been asking to join a blowing league for a while now but with his work schedule I have lucked out and we haven't been able to do it. Now it's time for me to put that aside and enjoy this with him. I have gathered up information on bowling leagues in Va Beach for us to join when we move there. His brother and my one day sister in law will be joining us. They are all beyond excited about it. Who knows maybe one day I'll even be good at bowling! Yes, this project isn't actually going to take effect until a few months down the road but I'm sure as soon as I tell him the plan we will be going just for fun much more often while we are still in Pensacola!
Project #1
30 Minutes is All it Takes
Create Some Free Time When He Gets Home
“There's never enough time to do all the nothing you want.”
~Bill Watterson, Calvin and Hobbes
~Bill Watterson, Calvin and Hobbes
Your Project:
Focus on your husbands transitional 30 minutes today. Would he like to be left alone to rest and rejuvenate, or does he want some undivided attention from you? The point is to let your husband know you value what he does out in the world, and that he has a safe loving place to come home and get refreshed at the end of the day.Getting Creative
There are plenty of reasons why it might not be easy for you to give your husband some transition time at the end of the day. You need to look at what can work for your relationship. Be creative, like the stories listed below. Brainstorm with your friends until you find a situation that will work for you and your guy.
- My friend, Joann, purposely scheduled her daughter’s dance classes twice a week at the same hour that her husband gets home from work. That way, her hubby comes home to an empty house. He gets some quiet, and she gets a more peaceful man.
- One husband has his workshop out in the garage. His wife encourages him to go and hang out there for a while before dinner. (Since starting this arrangement, her husband has started helping out with the after-dinner clean up. Nice side benefit.)
- Crockpots are The Husband Project’s best friend. Set your crockpot to be finished thirty minutes after your husband gets home from work. Let him know that you don’t need anything until dinner is ready. Don’t know a crockpot from a flower pot? Check out the recipes in The Ultimate Guide to Man Food at www.kathilipp.com
- Does your husband already have a great transition routine after getting home? Find some other little thing to bless that time. Maybe it’s making sure the TV is available, his favorite sweats are clean and ready to be changed into, or there’s a cold soda waiting for him in the fridge. It may be so small that he doesn’t even notice. That’s okay – you’ll know what you did.
- What if your husband works from home? Maybe the best way to help him relax is to ask what he would like the schedule to be. Does he want dinner before or after he gets some time to recharge? Ask him what would make his night better.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
My Project 1
The puppies are trouble makers. They like to dig, they like to eat socks and need to be under constant supervision. At least until they are a little older. Because these past few months have been a challenge for me without have a job I get stir crazy in this house. I almost always tell E that the dogs are his the moment he walks into the house. So from now on I'm giving him the first 30 minutes home to unwind/play a video game without interruption from the pups.

The Husband Project
Let's start off with some facts:
I met E when I was 17 and a senior in high school
We dated for 5 years before we were married. (I had to graduate twice!)
We have been married for just about 2 years.
I plan to be with him for at least the next 60 years.
I love him more then I ever thought possible. He is my best friend.
But sometimes he can drive me insane!
When I heard about someone else reading a book called "The Husband Project" by Kathi Lipp I thought, how funny I want to read that. So I looked it up at the little library in town but they didn't have it. So next I went to Amazon.com and found it there. I'll admit I didn't read a summary about the book but it did have great reviews. From there I found Kathi's Blog. At the time she was letting other bloggers review her book. Being new to the blog community I've never done a review, but am always eager to try something new so I asked if I could participate. What do you know, she said yes!
As soon as the book arrived I wanted to sit and read the entire thing! However, that is the same day my family came so I only had a chance to read a few chapters. I was hooked! Basically, everyday for the next 3 weeks I have small tasks to complete. They are anything from cooking dinner to leaving a little note somewhere for E to find during the day.
I'm starting tomorrow and I want you to join in at least for the next 5 days! Here are the topics:

Project #5
There are a few rules:
Don't tell your husband/boyfriend/fiance that you are doing the project. Then they will start looking for things instead of just having sweet surprises.
You can post about this on your blog if you want to share with others but you don't have to.
For the next 5 days I'll post the topic and a little more information to go along with it. Leave a comment with your ideas for that day and I'll do a drawing every day with a chance to win prizes that go along with the book.
Participate in all 5 days and you could win the book so you can complete the entire Husband Project!

210 in 2010
I read about this running goal 210 miles in 2010. At first I was like whoa that's a lot of miles and i'm new to running. But then I took a second and thought about it. There are 56 weeks in a year so really that's 3.75 miles a week. OK, I didn't just think about it I pulled out the calculator. I can totally do that! Since it is already February I need to subtract 4 weeks because I really have no idea how much I ran last month. Now i'm down to 52 weeks. Still it's doable. Just for the fun of it I looked to see how many miles a week I would need to run in order to complete 2010 miles this year. Over 38 miles a week...I think not! Perhaps if that included my spin time and running miles but that would just be too much counting for me. I am not a math person.
In other news, my mom and grandma are going to be here tomorrow! Very exciting to have so many visitors...must be the nice weather. That's a joke because as soon as they arrive it is supposed to rain for the next couple of days. Real nice Florida.
